
Hanks his next film role was as an astronaut and commander Jim Lovell in the 1995 docudrama Apollo 13. This reunited Hanks once more with Ron Howard. The film was generally praised by critics in addition to the performance of the entire cast (which included Kevin Bacon and Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise and Ed Harris) and Kathleen Quinlan. The film garnered nine Academy Award nominations and won two. Hanks was the voice of Sheriff Woody in Disney/Pixar's 1995 computer-animated film Toy Story (1995). A year later the director made his debut in the musical comedy That Thing You Do! The story follows the fall and rise of a 1960s-era rock band. Hanks also plays the role of a music producer. The Time magazine's Richard Schickel described his performance as "charming" and most critics agreed that Hanks' portrayal was a worthy inclusion in the top romantic comedy actors of the time.
